Philips Zoom NiteWhite and DayWhite: a wholesale buyer's guide

This is a buyer's guide, not a patient leaflet: the variants, what should be in the box, storage, and where the regulatory line sits if you're reselling into a restricted market.

The take-home range: NiteWhite and DayWhite

Zoom's take-home line splits into two families. NiteWhite is a carbamide peroxide gel, sold in 10%, 16% and 22% concentrations. DayWhite is a hydrogen peroxide gel, sold in 6%, 9.5% and 14% concentrations, per Philips' own instructions for use.[1]

The two aren't the same active ingredient measured two ways. Carbamide peroxide is hydrogen peroxide combined with urea, which breaks down slowly and releases the peroxide over several hours. Philips positions NiteWhite as the longer, overnight-wear formula on that basis. Hydrogen peroxide in DayWhite is the active form itself, acting faster and formulated for shorter daytime sessions.[2] How a clinic or studio schedules wear time is their call, not ours.

On "ACP": some older Discus Dental-branded stock and third-party listings still carry "ACP" in the product name. Philips' current instructions for use don't list ACP among the active ingredients in NiteWhite or DayWhite gel itself. Sensitivity control comes from potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride, with a separate product, Relief ACP Oral Care Gel, sold where available for pre- and post-treatment use.[1] Naming can vary by market and production date, so go by the box copy, not the SKU name a supplier listed it under.

Kit formats and box contents

Boxes come in 3-syringe and 6-syringe formats. Philips' own product pages show the NiteWhite 22% take-home carton as a 6-syringe box and the DayWhite 14% refill carton as a 3-syringe pack.[3][4] Each syringe is 2.4 mL (2.4 g) of gel, with a mixing tip included per the instructions for use.[1]

"Starter" configurations also include a tray storage case and a shade guide; custom-fitted trays are made by the treating dentist and aren't shipped in a bulk syringe carton. Philips notes that quantities vary by configuration.[1] Check the contents list on the box copy for your specific SKU, and don't assume every carton in the range matches.

Storage and shelf life

Worth checking before you accept stock. Philips' instructions for use are specific: store between 15°C and 25°C (59°F to 77°F) in a dark, dry place; above 25°C reduces shelf life; do not refrigerate or freeze.[1] That cuts against the common assumption that this is a cold-chain product. It isn't. What matters in transit is heat, not cold. Tell your forwarder to avoid non-climate-controlled containers or tarmac holds in hot conditions, not to arrange refrigeration.

Expiry is marked on the carton with a use-by-date symbol and a batch code.[1] Philips sets the date per batch rather than publishing one fixed shelf life, so check the printed date on the stock you are offered, not a rule of thumb. We state remaining shelf life on every quote.

Regulatory reality for trade buyers

In the EU and UK, hydrogen peroxide in oral products is restricted under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, Annex III, entry 12. At 0.1% H2O2 or below, a product can be sold directly to consumers. Above 0.1% and up to 6%, it may only be sold to dental practitioners, the first use in each cycle must be carried out or supervised by one, and it must not be used on anyone under 18.[5] The UK General Dental Council states plainly that products exceeding 6% may not be supplied or administered for cosmetic purposes at all in the UK, and that breaching these limits is a criminal offence enforced by Trading Standards.[6]

Applying Philips' own equivalence figures: NiteWhite 10% and 16% (3.5% and 5.9% H2O2-equivalent) fall inside the practitioner-only tier. NiteWhite 22% (8.4% equivalent) and DayWhite 9.5% and 14% exceed the 6% ceiling outright. At that level the product is not a dentist-only cosmetic, it is outside what the regulation permits as a cosmetic in the EU/UK through any channel. DayWhite 6% sits at the top of the practitioner-only tier.

Rules differ by market. This is EU/UK law specifically, not a global standard. We are not stating our stock is compliant for resale in your market. You are the importer of record and responsible for meeting the rules that apply where you sell it.

What to check when buying stock

Concentration printed on both the outer box and the individual syringe. Confirm they match.
Syringe count per box (3 or 6) against what you were quoted.
Expiry date and batch code on the carton, legible and not close-dated.
Storage condition in transit: within the labeled 15–25°C range, not exposed to heat, not refrigerated.
Carton condition. Crushed corners or resealed tape on a "sealed" box are worth questioning.
Invoice traceability back to the retail channel the stock came from.
